The following is a brief description of the venues on the itinerary of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Pope Francis and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will meet at three different venues, which mirror the venues of their predecessors Pope Paul VI and Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras in 1964: The Apostolic Delegation, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and summer residence of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in the area of "Small Galilee."
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher
Also called the Church of the Anastasis (i.e.
Resurrection), the Church of the Holy Sepulcher
is the most important site in Christendom.
The Church of the Nativity
It is often said by Christians that in the small
cave in Bethlehem is where earth and heaven met.
The Theotokos held God in her womb so that by
his birth, divine providence would be fulfilled.
Apostolic Delegation
The Apostolic Delegation is located in
Jerusalem. It was one of the venues where Pope
Paul VI and Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras met
in 1964. To commemorate that historic event, the
room where Pope Paul VI and Ecumenical Patriarch
Athenagoras met has two notable items
commemorating that historic moment.
Small Galilee
The area of Small Galilee, which is on the top
of the Mount of Olives, is indeed the place
where Christ appeared to his disciples twice
after his resurrection.
The Israel Museum
The Israel Museum is ranked among the world's
leading art and archaelogy museums. Founded in
1965, the Museuem houses encyclopedic
collections from prehistory and the present day,
archeology, and fine arts.
